Council Meetings

BNAN works with volunteer citizen councils to plan and implement its stewardship efforts along the Neponset River Greenway, the East Boston Greenway and in Boston’s Community Gardens. Supported with a range of services provided by BNAN, these councils of volunteer residents work as active and informed citizens to plan the development and advocacy for of linear greenways in East Boston and along the Neponset River and for the city’s 150 active community gardens system. BNAN’s work with the Council model began with the initiation of the Greenways to Boston Harbor project in 1994. With three miles of new parkland now built demonstrating the success of engaged and effective communities, BNAN expanded its Councils into Urban Wilds in 2008.

East Boston Greenway Council
East Boston Greenway Council meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Bremen Street YMCA at 6:30 p.m. The YMCA is located at 215 Bremen Street. Click Here for Directions and Map. Neponset River Greenway Council

Boston Gardeners Council

Boston Urban Wilds Council
Join the new Urban Wilds Council (UWC), bringing together friends groups, city partners and concerned individuals from across Boston to help protect these valuable resources. Boston’s Urban Wilds are a special collection of open spaces that give beauty and comfort to the neighborhoods; that tells us something about the history of the city, its landscapes and its geology; that are too often unused, unappreciated and unprotected.

Working as a citywide council, the UWC seeks to improve and increase capacity to protect, maintain and promote urban wilds. Please join us in our efforts to:

  • Protect urban wilds and other natural areas from development, encroachment, and uses that degrade their natural character
  • Manage and maintain urban wilds and other natural areas to promote their ecological integrity
  • Promote the use of urban wilds for passive recreation, environmental education, and other uses in keeping with their natural character
  • Develop resources to ensure on-going, long-term maintenance and stewardship of urban wilds
