Grow Boston Greener is a collaborative effort of the
City of Boston and its partners in Boston's Urban Forest
Coalition (BUFC) to increase the Urban Tree Canopy of
the City. In 2006 members of BUFC including citizen
volunteers inventoried both the street trees of the
City as well as overall canopy coverage across all neighborhoods.
These data revealed that Boston's current canopy cover
is 29%. Grow Boston Greener will increase this number
to 35% by planting 100,000 trees by the year 2020.
